MONTPELIER — Pianist Diana Fanning delivered performances of masterpieces by Samuel Barber and Alban Berg on Sunday at the Unitarian Church that were not only insightful but beautiful. Much the same could be said for works of Haydn, Brahms and Debussy.

The Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival played their fifth evening of chamber music under the banner of "The Art of Conversation", which turned out to be music by contemporary composers Michael Rothkopf (b. 1955) and Andrew Norman (b. 1979), Olivier Messiaen (1908 - 1992) and Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897).

Burlington, VT. 8 July 2011. The fifth in a series of concerts given by the faculty of the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival took place at the Redstone Recital Hall on the campus of UVM. The concert was entitled: "Peak Experience", featuring works by Zoltan Kodaly (1882-1967), Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) and Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897-1957).

Burlington, VT. 6 July 2011. The Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival presented its third concert of the summer season at the Redstone Recital Hall. It was titled "Shadow and Light". The contrasts were emotional ones rather than simply the contrast between fast and slow, for example, Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) was represented by a Sonata for violin and piano (1943). As played by Kevin Lawrence, violin, and Paul Orgel, piano, not only was there the surface contrast between the sections within movements but within the entire structure of the sonata there is a chiaroscuro effect of shadow and light.
