.  Tonight at the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium was a varied concert presented by the Providence Singers, the Rhode Island Children’s Chorus, a quartet of soloists (Bonnie Pomfret, Emily Marvosh, Charles Blandy and David Kravitz), members of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and guest instrumentalists. The program, consisting of works by Arvo Pärt, Thomas Tallis, Dan Locklair and Benjamin Britten, concluded with Mozart’s monumental Requiem.

At Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium, Music Director Larry Rachleff confidently led the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra in an ambitious, yet accessible program fittingly entitled ‘Captivating Colors’. The musical fare for the evening was the tone poem, a genre wherein composers, virtual aural artists, strive to paint a dramatic scene or evoke a specific scenario or emotion. The musical offerings also created a kind of meal of their own, one with fresh and original combinations of taste and texture.

 
Avery Ensemble Offers Five American Voices Print E-mail

New Britain, CT, 12 May 2008.  The Avery Ensemble, consisting of two married couples: violinist Annie Trépanier and violist Steve Larson, and pianist Adriana Jarvis and cellist Hans Twitchell, is Artist in Residence at Trinity on Main here, where it gave the final performance in this season’s 3-recital series yesterday afternoon.
